Book summary: The Stand by Stephen King

This is one of my favorite book of many, which grasped me away with the terror and horror of evil dwelled among humanity portrayed by the writing of a wonderful author. It’s a story of a horrendous post-apocalyptic which wiped all the living stood on the ground of earth, back in June 1985 because of a spreading superflu or so-called ‘Captain Trip’. Filled with carcasses unburied, the earth was like another mere graveyard of wars where foes and friends fell down, breathless.

Among the chaos of death of thousand, a faceless clairvoyant wandered the ground, riding on the course to apocalypse. And so it was, every thing that began must be finished somehow by somebody. And this devil claimed the title for himself. He shall be the one who burned the earth and watch it dies till the very end while eating popcorn and snacks (I made that up, LOL!).

Now this is where it got really interesting…

A powerful devil however, holds no control or no such power to envision destiny. The superflu didn’t wiped existence of humanity entirely; in fact thousands had survived it with a strange immunity. But, their survival had leaved a mark on them every night, for the moment they closed their eyes to rest, the dream emerged. Same dream every night, two types, one is bright, and the other is sinister. And the people who dreamt began to choose side from it, and the brave shall follow the route to Nebraska and the ruptured fearful souls shall follow the lead to Las Vegas, where the devil dwelled.

True, the existence of this people meant that human could start all over again, creating society and orders under a flag, but that doesn’t seemed the right thing to do. Both sides would have to confront each other on war someday, and when that day comes, it would seem like an unopposed victory for the devil. However, mankind forgot of an unseen protector which had always watched over us days and nights, thick and thin. Heaven. And they who believed, marched across Nevada to seek the devil who wished to destroy it all, and make their way for the final stand.
